FAQs
BTU Capacity in Boiler Plants with Glycol Solutions
Glycol solutions are used for freeze protection in hot water systems. These solutions have a lower ability to hold and transfer heat. Because of this, adjustments must be made to the heating system to compensate for the glycol characteristics.
Sizing Instantaneous Replacement for Storage Water Heating
Commercial instantaneous water heating plants are increasingly replacing old storage based systems. It is important to select the correctly-sized water heating equipment. Consideration must be given to the application, formerly stored energy and possible over-sizing of the original system.
How Does Water Quality Affect My Water Heater?
Which substances affect the water quality of my domestic water system? Answer: Most water quality issues derive from hard water scale, chlorides, and free chlorine. Ultrapure water can also harm domestic water systems.
Hydronic Buffer Tank Sizing
Question: Does the mass of my boiler determine the need for a hydronic buffer tank?
Answer: No, although it is a contributing factor.
Stratified and Accumulator Storage
Proper piping of storage tanks is essential to maintain system temperatures. Frequently, improper plumbing can lead to cold slugs being delivered to fixtures and increase the opportunity for a storage tank to become a comfortable habitat for bacterial growth. Correct installation, operation and regular maintenance will mitigate that risk. The majority of today's systems will use either the Stratified or Accumulator storage method.
Gas Trains
The gas train is one of the main components of a gas-fired boiler or water heater. It is important to select the proper gas train for your specifications and site requirements to ensure best performance of your unit.
Venting
Every piece of equipment has different venting guidelines. Please refer to your manufacturer’s and your local jurisdiction’s venting requirements for more detail.
